Luiz Gustavo A. S. Bichara
Born in Rio de Janeiro, he received his law degree from Cândido Mendes University Law School. He is a member of the Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Espírito Santo and Federal District Chapters of the Brazilian Bar Association. He is the executive director of the Brazilian Association of Financial Law, a member of the International Fiscal Association (where he sits on the General Council), the Brazilian Academy of Tax Law, the Brazilian Institute of Constitutional Law, the Brazilian Association of Tax Law, the Legal Studies Committee of the Brazilian Association of Franchising, as well as president of the Brazil-Honduras Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Corporate Law Firm Alliance (Aliança da Advocacia Empresarial - ALAE). He received highlight in the law review Análise Advocacia 2006-2008, in the tax area, and is the author of many studies and articles published in periodicals specialized in tax law. He also served with distinction as a legislative assistant with the Minas Gerais State Legislative Assembly, where he was a member of the special committee that drafted the bill for that state’s Taxpayer Defense Code. He was coordinator of the first, second and third Seminars on Taxation of Economic Infrastructure Activities, held in Rio de Janeiro in 2002, 2003 and 2004, respectively, and concluded the PIL (Program of Instruction for Lawyers de Harvard Law Scholl) in 2003. Finally, in the academic area he is professor in the Postgraduate Course in Tax Law of UNIGRANRIO and the LL.M Program in Tax Law of IBMEC, and vice-president of the Tax Law Committee of the Brazilian Bar Association, Rio de Janeiro State Chapter. He also served on the board of examiners of the 29th and 30th public examination for new public prosecutors in the state of Rio de Janeiro and the 42nd examination for judgeships.
Bruno Pinheiro Barata
born in Rio de Janeiro and received his law degree in 1991 from the Law School of Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ). He also holds a Bachelor’s in Social Communication (Journalism) from Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, an LL.M in Urban Law from Rio de Janeiro State University and postgraduate specialization in Telecommunications Law from the UniverCidade Legal Research Institute. He served as a legal assistant in various positions with the Second Regional Federal Court of Appeal (1990-1993) and in the Rio de Janeiro State Planning and Control and Revenue Secretariats (1995-1999), working in the areas of public tenders and government contracts, public property and the state privatization program, where he was a member of the team responsible for drafting invitations to bid, bills of law and regulations. He has been practicing law in Rio de Janeiro since 1993, with focus in public and private civil litigation.
Maria Victoria Santos Costa
Born in Bilbao, Spain and received her law degree from Fluminense Federal University (UFF) Law School in 1985. She is a member of the Rio de Janeiro State Chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association. She specializes in civil and corporate law. She has postgraduate specializations in Civil Procedure and Corporate Law from CEPED/UERJ and in Corporate Law from IBMEC. Paulo Maurício Fernandes da Rocha
Born in Niterói, RJ, he received his law degree from Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ) Law School and an LL.M in Procedural Law from the same school. He has practiced since 1987 in the area of litigation. He served as a city attorney in the Cabo Frio Municipal Revenue Secretariat, as head of the collections division and member of the team working to impede important districts from breaking off to form new municipalities (1992-1993). He has served with the Rio de Janeiro Public Attorney’s Office since 1995, where he specializes in matters involving urban development, environment, public property and expropriations. He is a member of the board of examiners in public examinations for new city attorneys in Rio de Janeiro. In the academic area, he is a professor in the Civil Procedure Law Department of Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ) Law School and an invited lecturer at the Veiga de Almeida University Law School (Barra da Tijuca and Cabo Frio campuses).
João Pedro Eyler Povoa
born in Rio de Janeiro, he received his law degree in 1995 from Cândido Mendes University Law School and has postgraduate specialization in Labor Law from the same institution in 2001 and in Labor Risks from IBMEC in 2004. He is a member of the Rio de Janeiro State Chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association. He previously worked for eight years in the labor litigation area of the firm of Costeira, Domingues Lopes e Frazão Advogados Associados and for six years in the labor and social security consultation and litigation areas of Siqueira Castro Advogados. He was a visiting professor at the Center for Formation and Training of IBMEC-CFT, where he lectured on questions of labor law and the labor aspects of due diligence examinations in mergers and acquisitions.
Guilherme Fortes Ferreira
born in Rio de Janeiro and received his law degree from Rio de Janeiro Federal University (UFRJ) Law School in 1984, and has postgraduate specialization in Tax Law from PUC/SP (1998). He previously worked as general manager of the tax area of Whirlpool S.A. (1996-2001) and served as Deputy Secretary for Management of the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Revenue Secretariat (2001-2006), accumulating the position of Superintendent of Real Estate (2002-2003).
