Luiz Gustavo A. S. Bichara
Born in Rio de Janeiro. Law degree from Cândido Mendes University Law School. Was a partner with the firm Miguez de Mello Advocacia, in charge of tax litigation (1994-2001). Member of the Brazilian Bar Association, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo Espírito Santo and Federal District chapters. Executive director of the Brazilian Association of Financial Law and a member of the International Fiscal Association (IFA), where he sits on the General Council. Also a member of the Brazilian Academy of Tax Law, Brazilian Constitutional Law Institute, Brazilian Tax Law Association and the Legal Studies Committee of the Brazilian Association of Franchising. President of the Brazil-Honduras Chamber of Commerce, Vice-President for Legal Affairs of the Brazil-Argentina Chamber of Commerce of Rio de Janeiro and past President, for two terms, of the Latin Alliance of Business Law (ALAE), currently serving on its Executive Committee. Received recognition in the magazine Análise Advocacia in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010, successively elected as one of the most admired lawyers in Brazil in the tax area (according to a survey among the legal departments of Brazil’s largest companies). Also received highlight in the international publications Chambers & Partners and Who´s Who Legal, indicated by both as one of the best tax lawyers in Brazil. Is the author of many studies and articles published in specialized journals. Was a member of the Special Commission, reporting to the State Legislature, that drafted the bill that became the Taxpayer Defense Code for the state of Minas Gerais, and also the commission for the same purpose established by the National Congress. Was coordinator of the First, Second, and Third Seminars on Taxation of Infrastructure Activities, held in Rio de Janeiro in 2002, 2003 and 2004, respectively. Concluded the Program of Instruction for Lawyers at Harvard Law School in 2003. Is a professor in the Postgraduate Course in Tax Law of the Unigranrio Law School and the LLM program in Tax Law at IBMEC Business School. Is chairman of the Special Committee for Tax Affairs of the Brazilian Bar Association (Rio de Janeiro). Was a member of the Board of Examiners for the 29th, 30th and 31st public examinations for positions as state public attorneys in Rio de Janeiro, and the 42nd examination for choosing judges in the same state.
Bruno Pinheiro Barata
born in Rio de Janeiro and received his law degree in 1991 from the Law School of Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ). He also holds a Bachelor’s in Social Communication (Journalism) from Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, an LL.M in Urban Law from Rio de Janeiro State University and postgraduate specialization in Telecommunications Law from the UniverCidade Legal Research Institute. He served as a legal assistant in various positions with the Second Regional Federal Court of Appeal (1990-1993) and in the Rio de Janeiro State Planning and Control and Revenue Secretariats (1995-1999), working in the areas of public tenders and government contracts, public property and the state privatization program, where he was a member of the team responsible for drafting invitations to bid, bills of law and regulations. João Pedro Eyler Povoa

José Romeu Garcia do Amaral
Born in Bauru, São Paulo, he has a law degree and a master’s degree in commercial law from the University of São Paulo Law School, the latter under the orientation of Professor Erasmo Valladão Azevedo, JD, and Professor Novaes França. He also has an LL.M. from Northwestern University School of Law (Chicago), with emphasis on corporate, antitrust and M&A, as well as specialization in corporate law from Mackenzie Presbyterian University and an MBA from Unicamp. He previously worked in the legal departments of large companies for nearly 10 years. He was executive legal manager of JBS S.A. (responsible for the corporate, M&A and contracts areas) and chief counsel of Sadia S.A. He participated in the Sadia/Perdigão (BRF – Brasil Foods S.A.) and JBS/Bertin mergers. He has also taken part in various international transactions in Europe, the Middle Ease and Asia (acquisition and sale of assets, international contracts, etc.). He is a member of the Applied Corporate Law Institute (IDSA) and a board member of the Lawyers’ Defense Movement (MDA). He received the Global Counsel Award in the litigation category, given by the Association of Corporate Counsel and the International Legal Office, in New York (2010).
